Position Summary
MTN Ghana is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Specialist, IP Network Security to strengthen the security, resilience, and compliance of its IP network infrastructure. The successful candidate will manage network security operations, identify and mitigate vulnerabilities, implement security controls, support incident response, and drive continuous improvements to MTN Ghana’s security posture.

Key Responsibilities
Security Operations & Administration
- Manage and monitor the performance, availability, and compliance of network security systems.
- Implement and maintain security policies, standards, and best practices across IP-Core, IPRAN, Internet gateways, and MTN’s corporate network infrastructure.
- Conduct regular security reviews, assessments, and IP network security audits.
- Act as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for internal, external, and regulatory security audits, including ISO 27001 and NCA compliance reviews.
- Escalate and manage network and firewall security incidents in line with MTN Information Security Incident Management processes.
- Ensure the continuous protection and security of MTN Ghana’s corporate network infrastructure.
Risk & Vulnerability Management
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to identify vulnerabilities and coordinate timely remediation activities.
- Conduct security risk assessments, impact analyses, and root cause investigations.
- Maintain and improve network defence playbooks, controls, and procedures to prevent, detect, and respond to security threats.
- Ensure effective integration of security logging, threat intelligence, IP log management, and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems.
- Review existing security solutions and network designs to identify improvement opportunities.
IPv6 Security Management
- Design and implement security mechanisms for IPv6 environments, including:
- Traffic filtering and inspection.
- Protection against IPv6-specific vulnerabilities such as Router Advertisement (RA) flooding and rogue DHCPv6 attacks.
- Secure tunnelling and transition mechanisms, including 6to4 and Teredo.
- End-to-end security policy enforcement across dual-stack network environments.
Vendor & Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with technology vendors, including Cisco, Huawei, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Appgate, and other solution providers.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align network security practices with MTN Group security standards.
- Work closely with IT, Enterprise Services, Legal, Risk, Customer Experience, and other business units on security compliance and incident management.
Innovation & Security Posture Improvement
- Monitor global cybersecurity trends, regulatory developments, and emerging threats to enhance MTN Ghana’s network security capabilities.
- Champion initiatives that protect and strengthen the security reputation of MTN Ghana’s IP resources across public and enterprise domains.
- Drive automation of security operations, vulnerability assessments, monitoring, and reporting processes.
- Recommend innovative solutions to improve network resilience and threat protection.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree (BSc.) in Computer Science, Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Security, or a related field.
- Must possess Security+ and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certifications.
- Preferred certifications include:
- CCNP Security / CCIE Security
- Palo Alto PCNSE
- Fortinet NSE4 / NSE7
- Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
- GIAC (GCIH/GCIA)
- ITIL or ISO 27001 Lead Implementer certification
Experience
- Minimum of six (6) years’ hands-on experience in IP networking and network security architecture.
- At least three (3) years’ experience within a telecommunications or technology environment, focusing on IP Network Security.
- Proven experience managing SRv6, MPLS, IP-Core networks, and secure data centre environments.
- Strong knowledge of IPv6 technologies, security frameworks, and implementation practices.
- Demonstrated experience in security operations, vulnerability management, audits, and incident response.
- Experience reviewing and improving security solutions, architectures, and network designs.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
