Position Summary
As the Assistant Learning Developer, you will deliver academic skills and English language support programmes that enhance student learning and academic success. You will work closely with students and academic colleagues to develop engaging learning resources, facilitate workshops, and provide personalised academic support that strengthens students’ communication, critical thinking, and study skills.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Deliver English for Academic Purposes (EAP), English Proficiency Programme (EPP), and Critical Thinking modules as assigned.
- Support students in developing academic reading, writing, critical thinking, listening, speaking, note-taking, and research skills.
- Provide one-to-one academic support through consultations, tutorials, and drop-in sessions.
- Design and facilitate academic skills workshops, study sessions, and student development programmes.
- Develop engaging learning resources and teaching materials that promote academic achievement and independent learning.
- Guide students in effective revision techniques, time management, academic planning, and study strategies.
- Assist with examination invigilation, assessment marking, and other academic support activities when required.
- Collaborate with the Learning Development team to enhance the overall student learning experience.
- Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.
- Contribute to the continuous review and enhancement of learning support programmes and services.
- Build positive relationships with academic departments to identify and address student learning needs.
- Promote a supportive, inclusive, and student-focused learning environment.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate will have:
- A good first degree from a recognised university; a relevant master’s degree will be an advantage.
- An internationally recognised English language teaching qualification, such as Cambridge CELTA or Trinity TESOL.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant teaching or academic support experience, preferably within a higher education institution or an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) environment.
- Demonstrated experience developing teaching and learning materials, academic skills programmes, and writing workshops.
- Strong understanding of academic writing, critical thinking, and student learning support practices.
- Excellent communication, presentation, organisational, and administrative skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent digital literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and online learning platforms.
- A genuine passion for supporting students and helping them achieve academic success.
