Position Summary
As the Dental Surgery Assistant, you will assist dentists during clinical procedures, prepare treatment rooms and equipment, maintain infection prevention and control standards, and ensure patients receive professional and compassionate care throughout their treatment journey.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Assist dentists during examinations, dental procedures, and oral surgery.
- Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, materials, and equipment before each procedure.
- Sterilise and maintain dental instruments and equipment in accordance with infection prevention and control standards.
- Prepare patients for treatment and ensure their comfort throughout clinical procedures.
- Provide chairside assistance by anticipating the needs of the dentist during treatment.
- Maintain accurate patient records and support administrative documentation where required.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care as directed by the dentist.
- Monitor stock levels of dental supplies and report replenishment needs.
- Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, safety procedures, and professional standards.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe clinical environment.
- Support the dental team with other clinical and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate will have:
- A Certificate in Dental Surgery Assisting (DSA) from the College of Health and Well-Being, Kintampo, or an equivalent recognised institution.
- Current registration with the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC).
- Sound knowledge of dental procedures, infection prevention and control practices, and chairside assisting techniques.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Basic computer literacy will be an advantage.
