Position Summary
The Anatomical Pathology Technician / Mortuary Assistant / Janitor will support the operations of the pathology and mortuary facilities by assisting with specimen handling, facility maintenance, sanitation, and general operational support. The successful candidate will help ensure that facilities are maintained in accordance with established health, safety, hygiene, and professional standards.
This role requires a high level of professionalism, discretion, attention to detail, and respect for institutional policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Mortuary & Pathology Facility Support
- Assist with the day-to-day operations of the mortuary and anatomical pathology facilities.
- Support the handling, movement, storage, and documentation of specimens and related materials in accordance with established procedures.
- Assist technical and academic staff with operational activities when required.
- Ensure proper preparation and organization of workspaces and equipment.
Facility Cleaning & Sanitation
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation within assigned facilities.
- Clean and disinfect work areas, storage rooms, equipment, and common areas according to approved protocols.
- Ensure proper disposal of waste and compliance with health and safety requirements.
- Monitor sanitation supplies and report replenishment needs promptly.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Adhere strictly to institutional health, safety, infection prevention, and environmental protocols.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately and consistently.
- Report hazards, equipment malfunctions, and safety concerns promptly.
- Support compliance with regulatory and institutional standards governing mortuary and pathology operations.
Records & Operational Support
- Maintain accurate records and documentation as required.
- Assist with inventory monitoring and stock management of operational supplies.
- Support departmental activities and special assignments as directed by supervisors.
- Ensure confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive information and materials.
Qualifications & Experience
Educational Requirements
- Minimum of a Senior High School Certificate or Technical School Certificate.
- Diploma or Higher National Diploma (HND) in a relevant field will be an advantage.
Experience
- Previous working experience in a mortuary, pathology laboratory, healthcare facility, educational institution, or related environment will be an added advantage.
- Experience in facility cleaning, sanitation, or operational support roles is desirable.
Additional Requirements
- Applicants must be at least 25 years of age.
- Must demonstrate maturity, professionalism, and the ability to work responsibly within a sensitive work environment.
