Position Overview

Rapidlink Microfinance seeks a highly skilled and results-driven Credit Manager to lead and strengthen its credit operations. The successful candidate will oversee loan portfolio performance, enforce credit policies, manage risk, and lead a team of loan officers. This role requires strong analytical capability, leadership skills, and deep expertise in microfinance credit operations.


Key Responsibilities

Loan Portfolio Management & Growth

  • Maintain portfolio quality within institutional targets
  • Achieve monthly and quarterly loan disbursement targets
  • Manage portfolio diversification across lending methodologies
  • Optimize loan mix to balance risk exposure, outreach, and profitability

Credit Methodology & Policy Implementation

  • Enforce strict adherence to lending methodologies and credit policies
  • Define and manage loan approval authority limits within the credit hierarchy
  • Ensure loan pricing and interest rates align with risk profiles and cost of funds

Field-Based Credit Analysis & Underwriting

  • Supervise loan officers in applying the 5Cs of Credit (Character, Capacity, Capital, Collateral, Conditions) for informal sector clients
  • Review and approve loan applications within delegated authority
  • Conduct spot checks on client appraisals to ensure accuracy and quality
  • Assess client cash flow and repayment capacity where formal financial statements are unavailable

Collections, Delinquency Management & Recovery

  • Implement strict early delinquency management protocols, including timely follow-ups and field visits
  • Oversee write-off processes in compliance with internal policy and accounting standards
  • Coordinate recovery efforts with internal teams and external agencies where required
  • Manage collateral liquidation processes in line with legal and institutional requirements

Team Leadership & Capacity Building

  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate loan officers and credit staff
  • Monitor staff productivity and performance against targets
  • Deliver training on credit assessment, cash flow analysis, ethics, and over-indebtedness prevention
  • Implement fraud detection and prevention measures

Risk Management, Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Ensure proper collateral management, including valuation, documentation, custody, and insurance
  • Enforce compliance with KYC and AML regulations
  • Serve as the key liaison during internal and external audits
  • Justify provisioning levels and explain portfolio performance trends
  • Escalate credit policy exceptions and ensure proper approvals

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
  • 2–3 years of relevant experience in credit, lending, or microfinance operations
  • Strong understanding of loan portfolio management and credit risk principles
  • Proven experience in field-based credit analysis and underwriting
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Knowledge of KYC, AML, and regulatory compliance standards
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet performance targets
