Job Summary
UNU seeks an accomplished and visionary Director for its Ghana operations. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, oversee research and programmatic activities, and strengthen UNU’s partnerships with governments, academic institutions, and development organizations. The Director will actively promote UNU’s mission, mobilize resources, and ensure impactful, policy-relevant research.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and direction for UNU’s operations in Ghana
Develop and articulate a shared vision for UNU’s work, engaging stakeholders and partners in its implementation
Lead fundraising initiatives and secure support from multiple funders
Oversee research and policy initiatives, ensuring high-quality outputs that inform local, regional, national, and international policy
Promote collaboration across UNU networks and with governments, UN agencies, academic institutions, and other partners
Ensure sound financial, human resource, and administrative management of the Ghana office
Foster a culture of diversity, inclusion, and gender equality
Represent UNU in public forums, meetings with policymakers, and high-level international discussions
Educational & Experience Requirements
Doctoral qualification in natural sciences, engineering, economics, or related disciplines (e.g., natural resources, agriculture)
Minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience in research, leadership, or management within relevant fields
Demonstrable leadership and management experience in a multi-stakeholder, international context
Strong track record in fundraising and securing support from multiple funders
Extensive research publications with high citation impact in relevant areas
Experience in developing policy-relevant research initiatives and engagement with policymakers
Strong financial and human resource management skills
Ability to articulate a compelling vision and funding strategy in a rapidly changing environment
Proven ability to work effectively with diverse cultural, political, and academic stakeholders
Commitment to human development, gender equality, and UN principles
Knowledge of the UN system is an asset.
