Role Overview
The Director, Legal Affairs Directorate will provide strategic legal leadership and oversight for all legal matters of the University. Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor, the successful candidate will guide legal and regulatory compliance, support institutional governance, manage dispute resolution processes, and provide legal advisory services that align with the University’s strategic vision and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate shall:
- Provide legal advice on all University matters.
- Draft, review, and interpret agreements involving the University.
- Draft, review, and interpret University policies and regulatory frameworks.
- Represent or ensure appropriate representation of the University in dispute resolution proceedings, including out-of-court settlements.
- Supervise all external legal services provided to the University to ensure high professional standards.
- Facilitate the work of disciplinary boards and committees and provide legal support during disciplinary proceedings.
- Facilitate the work of the University Appeals Board.
- Facilitate the work of the University Anti-Corruption Committee.
- Serve on relevant planning and policy-making committees of the University.
- Review University initiatives, decisions, and processes to ensure legal compliance.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Council or the Vice-Chancellor.
Qualifications & Experience
The successful candidate must have:
- A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.
- A postgraduate degree in Law.
- Enrollment with the Ghana Bar Association.
- Minimum of fifteen (15) years post-qualification experience, with at least six (6) years at a managerial level.
- Substantial litigation experience.
- Proven leadership and administrative abilities demonstrated through relevant professional experience.
- Experience coordinating teams, initiating policies, and mentoring professionals.

- Strong leadership and strategic decision-making abilities.

- Ability to manage complex legal and administrative matters effectively.
- Excellent organizational and policy development skills.
Salary & Benefits
The position offers an attractive salary package with fringe benefits, including:

Tenure
The successful applicant shall hold office for a period of four (4) years on terms and conditions approved by the University Council before reaching the statutory retirement age of 60 years. The appointment may be eligible for re-appointment for a further term of up to four (4) years.
