Role Overview

UCC invites applications from highly qualified and experienced professionals for the role of Director, Directorate of Public Affairs (DPA). The Director will lead the University’s strategic corporate communications, manage media relations, and oversee internal and external communication initiatives that strengthen UCC’s reputation locally and internationally. The role reports directly to the Vice-Chancellor.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage press and media relations for the University.
  • Conduct perception studies to evaluate and enhance UCC’s public image.
  • Regulate and control University notices, posters, banners, and other publications.
  • Document and preserve the University’s history, culture, and symbols.
  • Oversee the publication of official University documents.
  • Provide media coverage, photography, and video support for University functions.
  • Ensure the University website is accurate, updated, and engaging.
  • Manage convocation ceremonies and related events.
  • Implement and oversee strategic corporate communications.
  • Collaborate effectively with local and international media partners.
  • Coordinate broadcasting of public lectures and other University events across multiple platforms.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the University Radio, TV, and Internet broadcasting facilities, and leverage the Campus Broadcasting Service (CBS) as a practical training laboratory for students.
  • Serve relevant committees and boards, providing guidance and expertise.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by University management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A postgraduate degree in Communication, Public Relations, Media, or a related field.
  • Membership in a recognized professional body relevant to communication or public affairs.
  • Minimum of 10 years post-qualification experience, including senior-level management roles.
  • Demonstrated strategic, interpersonal, and leadership skills within higher education or analogous institutions.
  • Previous experience as Deputy Registrar in a university is highly desirable.

Term of Office

  • Full-time appointment for four (4) years.
  • Renewable for one additional four-year term, subject to statutory retirement regulations.
