Educational Support Services (ESS) Teaching Assistant – Local Hire (Full-Time)

Location: East Legon, Accra, Ghana

We are seeking a dedicated and caring Educational Support Services (ESS) Teaching Assistant to support students with diverse learning needs and contribute to their academic, social, and emotional success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the ESS Teacher in delivering individualized and small-group instruction to students with diverse learning needs.
  • Assist with the implementation of individualized learning plans and classroom accommodations.
  • Provide one-on-one academic and behavioral support to students as required.
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment that promotes student engagement and independence.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other support staff to monitor student progress and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Assist with classroom preparation, learning resources, and instructional materials.
  • Observe and document student progress and provide feedback to the ESS Teacher.
  • Support students during classroom activities, assessments, transitions, and school events as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and uphold safeguarding and child protection standards.
  • Demonstrate the school’s Christian values through positive interactions with students, colleagues, and families.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Inclusive Education, Education, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Background in special education is required.
  • Valid teaching certification or relevant educational qualification is an added advantage.
  • Previous experience supporting students with diverse learning needs in a school environment is preferred.
  • Experience with American, International, or International Baccalaureate (IB) curricula is an advantage.
  • This position is open to local hires.

  • Excellent classroom support and student engagement skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Patience, empathy, flexibility, and a genuine passion for supporting student success.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding student welfare.
  • Commitment to Christian values and faith-based education.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and educational technology tools is an advantage.
