Position Summary

Accra Marriott Hotel is seeking a skilled and proactive Plant Mechanic to join the Engineering Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing the hotel’s mechanical plant and engineering systems to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all facilities. This role is ideal for a technically competent professional who is committed to preventive maintenance, operational excellence, and outstanding guest satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical plant equipment and building services to ensure uninterrupted hotel operations.
  • Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on pumps, motors, compressors, generators, boilers, water systems, HVAC plant equipment, and other mechanical installations.
  • Monitor the performance of plant equipment and recommend improvements to enhance reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Diagnose equipment faults and implement timely repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Conduct routine inspections of engineering systems and report maintenance requirements promptly.
  • Respond efficiently to maintenance requests and emergency breakdowns.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and equipment service logs.
  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with Marriott standards, manufacturer recommendations, and applicable statutory regulations.
  • Adhere to health, safety, environmental, and fire safety policies while promoting a safe working environment.
  • Maintain engineering tools, equipment, and workshop areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Collaborate with other Engineering team members and hotel departments to support smooth daily operations.
  • Participate in energy conservation initiatives and continuous improvement programmes.
  • Support renovation, installation, and engineering projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Diploma, Higher National Diploma (HND), or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plant Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Technical certification in Mechanical Engineering or Plant Maintenance will be an added advantage.
  • Professional certification from a recognized engineering institution will be considered an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of practical experience in plant maintenance, mechanical engineering, or facilities maintenance.
  • Experience maintaining mechanical plant equipment within the hospitality, commercial, manufacturing, or industrial sector is preferred.
  • Experience working in an international hotel environment will be an added advantage.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical plant systems, HVAC equipment, pumps, compressors, boilers, generators, and water distribution systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical faults efficiently.
  • Good understanding of preventive maintenance practices and asset management.
  • Knowledge of occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and engineering documentation.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for maintenance reporting is an advantage.
