Job Description

At Pure and Just we work to catalyse African potential through climate-smart agribusiness. Our flagship brand is Yvaya Farm Dried Fruit – a brand that seeks to make snacking on Ghana’s delicious, all-natural, tropical dried fruit a global norm. We strive to be a purpose driven business; generating sustainable income for those we work with, supporting healthy development of mind and body, and having a positive impact on the environment.

As an ideal candidate, you have a passion for bringing ideas to life and get satisfaction from seeing a job not just done, but also well done. You are a self-starter that understands how to work collaboratively, but can take initiative to identify challenges and solutions. You thrive in a dynamic environment where the job can look a little different everyday.

What you’ll do:

The Facilities & Maintenance Manager oversees the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of the dried fruit processing facility. The role’s primary focus is on maintaining the entire facility, implementing cleaning sanitation protocols, managing extensive dust control, and strictly adhering to food safety standards (HACCP, GMP, GFSI) related to the environments.

Key Responsibilities

Dry Processing Equipment Maintenance:

  • Dehydration Systems: Oversee the preventative maintenance and repair of drying equipment and ensuring optimal performance to meet critical production targets.
  • Production Line Integrity: Manage the maintenance of processing lines, including triple stack conveyor, milling machines, blending, and packaging machinery (e.g., continuous and vacuum sealers).
  • Preventative Maintenance (PM): Schedule and execute comprehensive PM programs, often requiring coordination of extended annual shutdowns, to perform deep cleaning and large-scale repairs without compromising continuous operation.

Hygiene, Sanitation, & Environmental Control:

  • Dry Sanitation Protocols: Develop and enforce strict dry cleaning procedures (vacuuming, brushing, scraping) for processing equipment and facility areas, minimizing the introduction of moisture to mitigate the risk of harmful microbial proliferation.
  • Pest Control: Aggressively manage the integrated pest management (IPM) program, with a specific focus on stored product insects (e.g., moths, beetles) and rodents, ensuring chemical applications are approved for dry and wet environments.
  • Building Fabric: Ensure the building envelope, floor-to-wall junctions, and overhead structures are maintained to prevent moisture ingress, condensation, and the creation of hard-to-clean pathogen harborages.
  • Foreign Material Control: Oversee the calibration and function of all foreign material detection equipment like metal detectors etc.

HACCP/GMP:

  • Maintain all facility and equipment documentation required for HACCP validation, GFSI scheme compliance (e.g., IFS, FSSC), and regulatory audits (FDA/GSA), with specific attention to cleaning verification records.
  • Utilities: Manage utilities critical to dehydration, LPG, natural gas, or other thermal energy sources used for drying.
  • Safety: Ensure all maintenance and facilities operations adhere to all Food Safety and Quality Management standards.
  • Maintain operation parameters to ensure all batches of dried products meet specifications.
  • Maintain clean and hygienic conditions for dryers and other machinery.
  • Ensure control limits are set, monitored, and adequately reported, and where deviations occur, they are promptly communicated to the FSQMS team.

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical) or Food Science/Technology, or equivalent technical experience.
  • Experience: 5+ years of maintenance or facilities management experience, with a mandatory background in Food processing.
  • Strong understanding of sanitation, food safety, and security regulations.
  • Experience in managing a team and coordinating multiple departments.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and address facility-related issues promptly.
  • Proficient in facility management software and IT Proficiency (specifically, proficiency with MS Office and the Google Suite (esp. Google
