About the Organization

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) operates worldwide on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and other partners to support sustainable development.

Within GIZ, the Agency for Business and Economic Development (AWE) serves as the central point of contact for private-sector engagement in development cooperation. Through a global network of advisors, AWE supports companies, business associations, and social partners by providing guidance on cooperation and funding opportunities.

In Ghana, AWE connects local market needs with German and EU private-sector solutions in areas such as sustainable value chains and nearshoring, climate and resource management, and sustainable energy. In collaboration with private-sector partners and bi- and multilateral program mes, AWE develops project ideas and supports their implementation.


Position Overview

GIZ Ghana is seeking a Junior Technical Advisor to support the development and implementation of private-sector cooperation initiatives in Ghana.

The successful candidate will contribute to project origination, partnership facilitation, advisory services, and coordination activities between private-sector partners, development cooperation programmers, and AWE’s global advisory network.

The role also includes administrative coordination, reporting, and knowledge management, while ensuring alignment with GIZ processes and procedures.


Key Responsibilities

The Junior Technical Advisor will:

  • Provide advisory support to companies on development cooperation instruments of the German Government and the EU (e.g., develoPPP), in close coordination with AWE experts in Germany.

  • Identify opportunities for cooperation between “Cooperation with the Private Sector (ZmW)” instruments and the GIZ programmer portfolio in Ghana and the region.

  • Support the origination and co-design of cooperation projects in areas such as sustainable value chains, climate and resources, and sustainable energy.

  • Coordinate with local trade and investment promotion initiatives and collaborate closely with the GIZ NIED Cluster in Ghana.

  • Liaise regularly with AWE Germany to ensure effective reporting and alignment of activities.

  • Plan and organize conferences, workshops, and training events, including logistics, documentation, invitations, presentations, and meeting minutes.

  • Manage administrative and procurement processes, including organizing travel and supporting procurement of goods and services in line with GIZ Processes and Rules (P+R).

  • Prepare concept notes, briefing materials, and reports to support project development and implementation.

  • Contribute to knowledge management, monitoring, and evaluation of project activities.


Required Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 1–3 years of relevant professional experience in private-sector cooperation, project development, or development cooperation.

  • Knowledge of sustainable supply chains, climate mitigation, or energy efficiency is an advantage.

  • Familiarity with development cooperation instruments (e.g., BMZ or EU programmer) or the ability to acquire such knowledge quickly.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and deliver results under tight deadlines.

  • Excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of German is considered an asset.

  • Ability to work proactively, independently, and collaboratively within a multicultural environment.

  • Demonstrated willingness to continuously develop skills and knowledge relevant to the role.
