We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Leading Hand Pump Mechanic to join our team at the Chirano Site. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic mining environment while contributing to the reliability and efficiency of critical plant equipment.


Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Lead and supervise all pump maintenance activities, including preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance.
  • Perform hands-on maintenance tasks such as dismantling, inspection, repair, and reassembly of pumps.
  • Coordinate daily work assignments and provide technical guidance to maintenance team members.
  • Ensure all maintenance work complies with established safety standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct fault diagnosis and troubleshoot issues related to pump and piping systems.
  • Monitor equipment condition and recommend improvements or corrective actions.
  • Ensure proper use of tools, lifting equipment, and approved maintenance practices.
  • Verify the quality and accuracy of completed work before returning equipment to service.
  • Complete work orders and accurately capture maintenance data in CMMS systems (e.g., SAP, Pronto).
  • Assist in planning maintenance schedules and estimating labor and material requirements.
  • Support root cause analysis (RCA) for pump failures and recurring issues.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards in the workshop and all work areas.
  • Train, mentor, and develop junior mechanics and apprentices to build team capability.

Education, Experience & Key Competencies

You should have:

  • A Technical Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Pump Mechanics, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5–10 years’ experience in pump maintenance or fitting, preferably within a mining or industrial environment.
  • Proven experience in a Leading Hand or senior artisan role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of pump systems, maintenance practices, and fault diagnosis.
  • Experience working with slurry systems or high-wear environments (advantageous).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • A commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
