Position Summary

The Midwife will provide comprehensive maternity care services, including antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, and newborn care. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, high-quality, and patient-focused care for mothers and babies.

The role requires strong clinical competence, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to promoting positive maternal and neonatal health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Maternal & Newborn Care

  • Provide high-quality antenatal, labour, delivery, and postnatal care to patients.
  • Monitor the health and wellbeing of mothers and newborns throughout the maternity care continuum.
  • Conduct routine assessments and identify potential risks or complications requiring medical intervention.
  • Assist with normal deliveries and support emergency obstetric care when required.
  • Provide newborn assessments and support early infant care and breastfeeding practices.

Patient Education & Counseling

  • Educate expectant mothers and families on pregnancy, childbirth, newborn care, nutrition, breastfeeding, and family planning.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to patients during pregnancy, labour, and the postnatal period.
  • Promote healthy maternal and child health practices within the community.
  • Support patients in making informed healthcare decisions.

Clinical Care & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records and clinical documentation.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with professional standards and medical protocols.
  • Monitor and report changes in patient conditions to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control procedures.

Collaboration & Quality Care

  • Work closely with doctors, nurses, laboratory personnel, and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated patient care.
  • Participate in clinical meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and professional development activities.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe, respectful, and patient-centered healthcare environment.
  • Support the implementation of healthcare policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications & Educational Requirements

Candidates must possess:

  • A Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Midwifery from a recognized institution.
  • Valid professional registration and licensing with the relevant regulatory authority.
  • Additional certifications in maternal health, neonatal care, emergency obstetric care, or related areas will be an advantage.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience as a practicing Midwife.
  • Experience providing antenatal, labour, delivery, postnatal, and newborn care.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage maternal and newborn healthcare needs effectively.
  • Experience in a hospital, clinic, maternity center, or healthcare facility will be highly desirable.

Location Requirement

Applicants must reside in or around Mataheko, Dansoman, Kaneshie, or nearby communities to ensure accessibility and timely response to patient care needs.
