Role Purpose
The Occupational Health & Safety Officer (OHS) plays a critical role in promoting a safe and healthy work environment across mining operations. The role focuses on implementing and monitoring occupational health and safety systems, ensuring regulatory compliance, identifying risks, and supporting the Company’s commitment to international best practices and sustainable mining operations.
Key Responsibilities
The Occupational Health & Safety Officer will:
Plan, implement, and monitor occupational health and safety programs across mining operations.
Ensure compliance with applicable health, safety, and environmental laws, regulations, permits, and company policies.
Apply, maintain, and continuously improve Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems in line with ISO 45001:2018 and support environmental management systems aligned with ISO 14001:2015.
Identify workplace hazards and risks and implement effective mitigation and corrective actions.
Coordinate safety inspections, audits, incident investigations, and reporting activities.
Liaise with regulatory authorities, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders on OHS-related matters.
Prepare technical reports, safety documentation, and regulatory submissions.
Support training, toolbox talks, and awareness programs to promote a strong safety culture on site.
Monitor contractor compliance with health and safety requirements.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
HND, BTech, or BSc in Engineering, Environmental Science, Biological Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline.
Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in a similar role within the mining sector.
Working knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 management systems.
Possession of a valid Ghanaian DVLA driving license (Class B or C).
Strong analytical, reporting, and communication skills.
Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet operational deadlines.
