Job Summary
Black Star Advisors Ltd is seeking a highly motivated Operations Officer to manage and optimize investment operations across the business. Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end investment operations, including trade execution support, confirmations, settlements, and transaction reconciliations.
- Process and settle securities transactions accurately across relevant market platforms, including the Central Securities Depository (CSD).
- Administer investment portfolios by maintaining accurate records, updating asset allocations, and monitoring investment transactions.
- Perform and review daily mark-to-market valuations of investment portfolios and financial instruments.
- Process client transactions, including subscriptions, redemptions, transfers, and withdrawals accurately and within established service standards.
- Maintain complete and accurate client and fund records with appropriate documentation and audit trails.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations of cash balances, securities holdings, portfolio positions, and client accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Monitor investment mandates, client instructions, authorised signatories, and operational documentation to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Liaise with custodians, banks, brokers, and other service providers to facilitate seamless transaction processing and timely issue resolution.
- Prepare operational, management, and regulatory reports within prescribed timelines.
- Ensure compliance with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations, internal policies, investment guidelines, and operational risk management frameworks.
- Identify operational risks and implement effective internal controls and process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and accuracy.
- Support internal and external audit engagements by providing required documentation and addressing audit findings promptly.
- Collaborate closely with Portfolio Management, Finance, Compliance, Risk, Technology, and Client Service teams to achieve business objectives.
- Support the automation and continuous improvement of operational processes and reporting systems.
- Coach and mentor junior operations staff while promoting a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5–10 years’ relevant experience in asset management, investment operations, fund administration, custody, brokerage, or related financial services operations.
- Strong understanding of capital markets, investment products, portfolio operations, and asset management processes.
- Sound knowledge of fixed income and equity instruments, mutual funds, trade settlements, reconciliations, investment accounting, and Central Securities Depository (CSD) operations.
- Professional certification such as the ACI Operations Certificate, GISI, or an equivalent qualification will be an added advantage.
