Position Overview

Fon Packaging seeks an experienced, hands-on, and results-driven Plant Manager to lead and optimize plant operations. The successful candidate will oversee production efficiency, ensure cost-effective manufacturing, and drive continuous improvement across all operational processes.

This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and a proven ability to improve productivity, reduce downtime, and enhance overall plant performance.

Key Responsibilities

Plant Operations Management

• Lead daily plant operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production.
• Oversee production planning, scheduling, and execution to meet delivery targets.
• Ensure optimal use of machinery, materials, and manpower to maximize productivity.
• Monitor plant performance and implement corrective actions where necessary.

Production Efficiency & Continuous Improvement

• Drive initiatives that improve productivity and reduce operational downtime.
• Identify process inefficiencies and implement lean manufacturing practices.
• Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) for plant operations.
• Support cost reduction strategies while maintaining product quality standards.

Maintenance & Technical Oversight

• Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance programs with engineering teams.
• Ensure machinery operates at optimal efficiency and safety standards.
• Support troubleshooting of production and mechanical issues.

Supply Chain & Procurement Support

• Collaborate with procurement teams on raw material planning and availability.
• Monitor material usage and minimize waste in production processes.
• Support supplier coordination where operational input is required.

Leadership & Team Management

• Supervise and develop production, maintenance, and warehouse teams.
• Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and performance excellence.
• Report plant performance updates to senior management.

Job Requirements

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
• A degree in Manufacturing Management or Operations Management with strong hands-on technical experience will be considered.
• Professional membership of an engineering or manufacturing body (e.g., Ghana Institution of Engineers) is an advantage.

Experience

• 5–10 years of progressive experience in operations or plant management.
• Experience in packaging, printing, or corrugated manufacturing is highly preferred.
• Proven track record of improving productivity, reducing downtime, and achieving cost efficiencies.
• Experience reporting to a General Manager or Managing Director in a medium-sized manufacturing environment.
• Exposure to raw material sourcing, supplier management, or production procurement is an added advantage.

Technical Skills

• Strong understanding of corrugated carton or flexible packaging manufacturing processes (or ability to quickly learn).
• Proficiency in production planning and scheduling systems.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel for production tracking, reporting, and analysis.
