The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring cost-effective procurement, supplier performance, timely material availability, and compliance with company procurement policies. This role requires a professional with strong construction industry expertise, excellent negotiation capabilities, and a proven ability to build and manage supplier relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and execute procurement activities to support construction projects and operational requirements.
- Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers and contractors to secure quality goods and services at competitive prices.
- Prepare and process purchase orders, requests for quotations, tender documents, and procurement contracts.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliable and uninterrupted supply chains.
- Monitor market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supplier performance to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and site teams to forecast procurement requirements and delivery schedules.
- Ensure timely procurement and delivery of construction materials, equipment, and services to project sites.
- Track and manage inventory levels to prevent shortages, delays, and excess stock.
- Evaluate supplier performance and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies, contractual obligations, and company standards.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, supplier databases, contracts, and purchasing documentation.
- Resolve procurement-related issues, supplier disputes, and delivery discrepancies efficiently.
- Support budget control initiatives by identifying opportunities for cost reduction and operational efficiencies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant procurement experience, preferably within the construction industry.
- Strong background and practical knowledge of construction materials, equipment procurement, vendor management, and supply chain operations.
- Demonstrated experience negotiating contracts and managing supplier relationships.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of procurement systems and inventory management software will be an added advantage.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
