We are seeking an accomplished Regional Director – West Africa to lead Norfund’s regional investment platform, strengthen strategic partnerships, and drive impactful investments that contribute to sustainable economic development across West Africa.

Job Summary

The Regional Director – West Africa will serve as Norfund’s senior representative in the region, providing strategic leadership for investment activities, regional operations, portfolio management, and stakeholder engagement. Based in Accra, the successful candidate will lead a high-performing regional team, oversee investment origination and portfolio performance, and build strong partnerships with governments, investors, development finance institutions, entrepreneurs, and other key stakeholders.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President for Scalable Enterprises, the Regional Director will play a critical role in advancing Norfund’s investment strategy while contributing to the organization’s broader global objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Regional Leadership

  • Lead, develop, and inspire Norfund’s West Africa team to deliver high performance and operational excellence.
  • Provide strategic direction for regional operations and ensure alignment with Norfund’s global investment priorities.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.
  • Contribute as a member of Norfund’s Extended Management Team by supporting organizational strategy and decision-making.

Investment Strategy and Business Development

  • Drive investment origination and business development across Norfund’s priority sectors, with particular emphasis on agribusiness and manufacturing.
  • Identify commercially viable investment opportunities that generate sustainable development impact.
  • Build and strengthen strategic partnerships that support regional investment growth.
  • Evaluate investment opportunities, conduct strategic analysis, and support investment decision-making.

Portfolio Management and Risk Oversight

  • Oversee the performance and development of Norfund’s regional investment portfolio.
  • Promote responsible ownership and strong environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices across portfolio companies.
  • Monitor investment performance and manage financial and operational risks.
  • Ensure effective portfolio governance and value creation initiatives.

Stakeholder Engagement and Representation

  • Represent Norfund across West Africa with governments, investors, entrepreneurs, development finance institutions, industry associations, and strategic partners.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships that strengthen Norfund’s regional presence and investment pipeline.
  • Promote Norfund’s mission, investment philosophy, and development objectives across key stakeholder groups.
  • Support collaboration between regional operations and Norfund’s global investment teams.

Educational Qualification & Experience

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • A Master’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant professional experience in investments, private equity, project finance, mergers and acquisitions, active ownership, or related fields.
  • Significant senior leadership experience with responsibility for managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of Norfund’s investment sectors, including agribusiness, manufacturing, renewable energy, green infrastructure, financial inclusion, or investment funds.
  • Strong commercial and investment management expertise with proven success in complex investment environments.
  • Experience leading multicultural and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in French will be an added advantage.
