Role Summary
The Regulatory & Compliance Officer ensures that the company operates in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards. The role serves as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities and drives internal compliance systems to support efficient and lawful business operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with regulatory bodies such as the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Customs Division, Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
- Act as the primary point of contact for inspections, audits, and regulatory inquiries.
- Monitor regulatory changes and advise management on their implications for the business.
- Ensure all licences, permits, certifications, and product registrations remain valid and up to date.
- Prepare, submit, and track regulatory filings, including import/export permits, tax exemptions, compliance reports, and product registrations.
- Manage customs and trade compliance, including HS code classification, customs valuation, duty exemptions, and clearance processes for raw materials and finished goods.
- Conduct internal compliance audits across production, QA/QC, warehouse, and finance functions to ensure adherence to regulatory standards such as FDA cGMP and GRA requirements.
- Identify compliance risks, investigate non-conformance issues, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Deliver training to staff on regulatory requirements, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ethical compliance practices.
- Prepare and present monthly compliance reports and dashboards to senior management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Pharmacy, Food Science, Regulatory Affairs, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certification in compliance or regulatory affairs is an added advantage.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in a regulatory or compliance role within manufacturing, FMCG, pharmaceutical, or food and beverage sectors.
- Demonstrated experience working with regulatory bodies such as FDA, GRA, and Customs.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
- Strong understanding of Ghana’s regulatory framework, including FDA guidelines, GRA tax and customs procedures, import/export regulations, and GSA standards.
- Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- High attention to detail and strong analytical capability.
- Strong written communication skills for formal correspondence and regulatory reporting.
- Ability to interpret legislation and translate requirements into operational processes.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism.
- Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
