We are seeking a proactive, experienced, and service-oriented Security and Safety Officer to support the implementation of effective security, safety, and risk management systems across World Vision Ghana operations. The successful candidate will work closely with the Country Security and Safety Manager to strengthen organisational resilience, protect staff and assets, and ensure programmes operate safely within changing environments.

Key Responsibilities
Security Strategy & Planning
As the Security and Safety Officer, you will:
- Support the Country Security and Safety Manager in developing and implementing the National Office security strategy in alignment with World Vision security policies and standards.
- Ensure security arrangements effectively support programme priorities and operational needs.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of Core Security Requirements (CSR), Safety, Security and Resilience (SSR) guidelines, and related procedures.
- Regularly review and update security requirements based on changing risk environments.
- Support the development, maintenance, and implementation of Security Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs).
- Ensure security arrangements reflect World Vision Ghana’s programming context, operational realities, and internal policies.
- Promote the integration of safety and security considerations into programme activities and project implementation.
Security Operations & Risk Management
You will:
- Support the Country Security and Safety Manager on staff safety and security matters across Area Programmes (APs), Clusters, and operational locations.
- Monitor security developments and provide timely reporting on incidents, risks, and emerging threats.
- Act as a focal point for security-related incidents and provide immediate coordination support during emergencies.
- Support incident response processes, including After-Action Reviews (AARs).
- Conduct security risk assessments (SRAs) for events, field activities, programme locations, and operational changes.
- Support re-entry security assessments following critical incidents.
- Conduct facility security assessments and support the implementation of effective physical security measures.
- Support visitor management, access control, travel management, and staff accountability systems.
- Provide security briefings to staff, visitors, partners, and newly deployed personnel.
- Support the development of annual security budgets and resource planning.
Networking and External Engagement
You will:
- Represent World Vision Ghana in relevant local NGO security coordination networks.
- Maintain professional relationships with security stakeholders and humanitarian partners.
- Gather, analyse, and share relevant security information with appropriate teams.
- Promote collaboration and information sharing to strengthen organisational preparedness.
Capacity Building and Security Awareness
You will:
- Support the development and implementation of security capacity-building plans based on identified risks.
- Conduct security awareness sessions, briefings, and trainings for staff and visitors.
- Promote a strong organisational culture of safety, security awareness, and compliance.
- Support staff understanding and application of security policies, procedures, and best practices.
Reporting and Documentation
You will:
- Prepare regular security reports, including fortnightly or monthly updates, for the Country Security and Safety Manager.
- Ensure all security incidents are documented and reported according to World Vision security policies.
- Coordinate with field security focal persons to monitor and report security concerns.
- Collect, analyse, and communicate security information to support informed decision-making.
- Maintain accurate security records, assessments, and documentation.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Security Management, Security Operations, Risk Management, Strategic Studies, International Relations, Emergency Management, Social Sciences, Core Sciences, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ professional experience in security, safety, resilience, or risk management roles within the private sector, government, military, police, law enforcement, or NGO environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing security risks, conducting threat assessments, and supporting crisis response.
- Practical knowledge of personal and organisational security systems, tools, and procedures.
- Experience working within humanitarian or international NGO environments will be an advantage.
- Experience developing and delivering security training programmes.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), or equivalent will be an advantage.
- First Aid certification will be an added advantage.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- No previous criminal record or convictions.
Skills & Competencies
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Strong understanding of security risk management frameworks and humanitarian security practices.
- Ability to remain calm, alert, and effective during emergencies and high-pressure situations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
- Ability to communicate effectively in at least two Ghanaian languages.
- Ability to communicate in French will be an advantage.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with radio and satellite communication systems will be an advantage.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Commitment to World Vision’s core values and humanitarian principles.
Work Requirements
The role requires:
- Regular travel between the Head Office, field offices, and programme locations.
- Flexibility to work outside normal office hours when security situations require urgent response.
- Ability to operate effectively in challenging environments and varied weather conditions.
- Sufficient physical fitness to respond effectively during emergencies, including security incidents, fire, or medical situations.
- Ability to remain attentive and responsive during extended periods of duty.
- Potential international travel as required.
