We are seeking a strategic and commercially driven Senior Business Development Officer to own market performance, accelerate revenue growth, and lead high-value client acquisition within the Ghana market. The role requires strong expertise in payments, fintech ecosystems, and enterprise sales, with a focus on execution, partnership development, and cross-functional leadership.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Market Ownership
- Own end-to-end commercial performance of the Ghana market across all payment products.
- Develop and execute strategies to expand market penetration and increase revenue contribution.
Revenue Growth
- Define and implement go-to-market strategies to achieve revenue and transaction volume targets.
- Identify growth opportunities and drive sustainable business expansion across key segments.
Merchant and Enterprise Sales
- Lead acquisition, negotiation, and closing of high-value merchants and enterprise clients.
- Develop strong pipelines and convert strategic opportunities into long-term partnerships.
Commercial Negotiation
- Structure pricing models, service level agreements (SLAs), and commercial terms in collaboration with leadership and finance teams.
- Negotiate complex deals that balance commercial value, risk, and long-term sustainability.
Cross-functional Leadership
- Act as the commercial bridge between business development, operations, compliance, product, and finance teams.
- Ensure alignment across teams to support seamless onboarding and go-live execution.
Performance Management
- Monitor sales pipelines, merchant performance, and partner transaction volumes.
- Drive corrective actions where performance gaps are identified.
Post-Mortems and Continuous Improvement
- Conduct structured post-mortems on lost deals, underperforming merchants, delayed go-lives, and missed targets.
- Translate insights into improved processes and sales effectiveness.
Market Intelligence
- Track competitor activity, regulatory developments, and trends within the Ghanaian payments ecosystem.
- Provide insights to inform product positioning and commercial strategy.
Team Leadership and Mentorship
- Mentor and guide Business Development Associates.
- Contribute to the development of sales playbooks and best practices.
Executive Reporting
- Deliver regular performance updates, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
Competency Specification
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Marketing, or a related field.
- A postgraduate qualification (MBA or equivalent) is an added advantage.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in business development, sales, or partnerships within fintech, payments, or financial services.
- Proven track record of owning revenue targets and closing complex commercial deals.
- Demonstrated experience engaging IMTOs, banks, or financial institutions.
Key Competencies (Must-Have)
- Strong understanding of payment gateways, collections, disbursements, and cross-border payments.
- Advanced commercial negotiation and deal structuring skills.
- Strong stakeholder management and leadership capability.
- Strategic planning with strong execution discipline.
- Data-driven decision-making and performance analysis.
Desired Competencies (Added Advantage)
- Deep knowledge of the Ghanaian payments and regulatory landscape.
- Experience managing teams or mentoring junior staff.
- Exposure to regional or multi-country payment corridors.
- Strong understanding of compliance and regulatory onboarding processes.
