We are seeking a highly experienced and proactive Senior Health & Safety Coordinator to strengthen our safety systems and ensure compliance with industry best practices.
Position Summary
The Senior Health & Safety Coordinator will lead the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of health and safety systems across mining operations. The successful candidate will ensure full compliance with safety regulations, promote a strong safety culture, and support operational teams in achieving zero-harm objectives.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership in safety management within the extractive industry and the ability to influence safe work practices at all levels of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies and procedures across mining operations
- Ensure compliance with national regulations and international mining safety standards
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions
- Lead incident investigations and ensure accurate reporting, analysis, and follow-up actions
- Promote a proactive safety culture through training, awareness campaigns, and employee engagement
- Coordinate emergency preparedness and response planning and drills
- Advise operational teams on safety requirements and best practices
- Maintain accurate health and safety records, reports, and documentation
- Monitor contractor compliance with company safety standards
- Provide regular safety performance reports to management
Qualification Required & Experience
Applicants must possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Engineering, or a related Engineering or Physical Sciences discipline
- A minimum of 7 years’ experience in the extractive or mining industry
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and mining safety standards
- Proven experience in safety systems implementation and risk management
- Excellent communication, analytical, and report writing skills
- Strong leadership and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work effectively in high-risk and high-pressure operational environments
- High level of integrity, discipline, and attention to detail
