Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Safety Officer – Operations to lead and strengthen health and safety practices at our Bibiani site. You will drive the implementation of safety management systems, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a proactive safety culture across all operational areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of site-wide Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) programs
- Ensure full compliance with Ghanaian health and safety legislation and mining regulations
- Conduct risk assessments, hazard identification, and implement effective control measures
- Monitor safety performance and drive loss prevention initiatives
- Lead incident investigations and ensure proper reporting and corrective actions
- Deliver safety training and effectively communicate HSE standards to employees at all levels
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety reviews
- Support the development and enforcement of Safety Management Systems
- Collaborate with operational teams to embed a strong safety culture
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
- Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related discipline is an added advantage
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
- Valid Senior HSE Certificate of Competency issued by the Minerals Commission of Ghana (mandatory)
- OHS Lead Auditor certification is desirable
- Valid Ghanaian Class B Driver’s License (minimum requirement)
- Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience in a Health and Safety role within mining or industrial environments
- Strong practical experience in risk management, hazard identification, and loss prevention
- In-depth knowledge of Ghanaian health and safety legislation, including Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2182) and related Legislative Instruments
- Solid understanding and application of Safety Management Systems
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Membership of relevant professional health and safety bodies is an advantage
- Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to safety excellence
