Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Underground Manager to lead and oversee all underground mining operations at our Bibiani site. You will ensure safe, efficient, and productive mining activities while driving operational excellence and maintaining the highest safety standards in a complex underground environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all underground mining operations to achieve production and safety targets
• Ensure strict compliance with health, safety, and mining regulations
• Oversee mine planning, scheduling, and execution of underground activities
• Supervise and develop underground teams, providing leadership and coaching
• Manage ground control, ventilation systems, and rock mechanics considerations
• Ensure proper handling of explosives, ground support systems, and backfill processes
• Monitor operational performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives
• Coordinate with technical and support teams to optimize mining efficiency
• Drive project and change management initiatives within underground operations
• Maintain accurate operational reporting and documentation

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
• Valid MINCOM Underground Manager’s Certificate of Competency
• Valid Ghanaian driver’s license with demonstrated defensive driving skills and ability to operate underground vehicles
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in underground mining operations, including at least 6 years in a supervisory role (e.g., Underground Mine Foreman)
• Strong knowledge of underground rock mechanics, mine planning, surveying, and ventilation principles
• Proven experience in underground mining methods, explosives handling, ground support systems, and backfill placement
• Familiarity with Duty of Care Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, and Mining Inspection Act & Regulations
• Strong track record of maintaining high safety standards in underground operations
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Strong project management and change management capabilities
• Effective leadership and coaching skills with ability to develop team members
• Ability to work under pressure, adapt to flexible rotations including night shifts, and maintain safety standards at all times
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
