Role Overview

The Vice Chancellor provides strategic leadership and vision to UMaT, ensuring the successful implementation of the University’s Strategic Plan. As the chief executive officer, the Vice Chancellor fosters a culture of academic excellence, ethical leadership, and industry collaboration while driving research, innovation, and sustainable development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the University by identifying opportunities and developing strategies that advance UMaT’s academic and research objectives

• Implement the University’s Strategic Plan while promoting innovation and excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement

• Build strong relationships with industry, government, and international partners to foster collaboration and resource mobilization

• Ensure effective governance, ethical standards, and accountability across all University operations

• Provide visionary leadership to enhance student learning, faculty development, and research capacity

• Manage the University’s financial and human resources efficiently and responsibly

• Serve as the primary representative of the University nationally and internationally

• Promote a culture of inclusivity, teamwork, and professional development among staff and students

Educational Requirements & Experience

• Must be a Full Professor of international acclaim and a distinguished scholar in a relevant discipline

• Demonstrated ability to lead a university, implement strategic initiatives, and achieve institutional objectives

• Strong leadership, organizational, and management skills

• Ethical leader with an unblemished character

• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills

• Visionary and business-oriented, capable of forging strong industry-University partnerships

• Proven capacity to raise and manage funds and resources for research and development activities

• Must be able to serve a full four-year term before attaining the compulsory retirement age of sixty (60) years

Terms of Appointment

• Appointment is full-time for four (4) years in the first instance, renewable for an additional term or part thereof

• Position offers highly competitive remuneration and conditions of service
