Position Summary

Mac Engineering is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Winder Mechanical Technician to support the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of winder systems used in underground mining operations. The successful candidate will ensure optimal performance, safety compliance, and reliability of winding equipment critical to shaft operations.

The role requires strong mechanical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in demanding underground and surface environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical components of winder systems.
• Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on winding equipment to ensure operational reliability.
• Diagnose mechanical faults and implement effective corrective actions promptly.
• Ensure safe operation and compliance with mining and engineering safety standards.
• Assist in the testing and commissioning of winder systems and related equipment.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, and equipment logs.
• Collaborate with electrical and engineering teams to ensure system efficiency.
• Respond to breakdowns and support emergency repair activities as required.
• Inspect ropes, drums, brakes, and other critical winder components for wear and defects.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance and safety.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Technical Certificate, Trade Test Certification, NVTI Certificate, HND, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience in mechanical maintenance within mining, shaft, or heavy industrial environments.
• Strong knowledge of winder systems, hoisting equipment, and mechanical drive systems.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, manuals, and maintenance procedures.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• High awareness of workplace safety and operational risk management.
• Ability to work in underground and challenging operational environments.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
