Role Overview

We are looking for a technically skilled professional who will lead and support industrial hygiene programmes, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards while protecting employee health. The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical capability with hands-on field experience in occupational hygiene.


Key Responsibilities

As a Hygiene Officer, you will:

  • Review and assess industrial hygiene programmes, procedures, and systems to ensure compliance with regulatory, corporate, and site requirements.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and field audits to verify adherence to hygiene standards and best practices.
  • Evaluate documentation, risk assessments, and operating procedures to strengthen hygiene programme implementation.
  • Perform occupational hygiene surveys, identify health risks, and analyse data to produce detailed reports for management.
  • Collect and analyse samples from kitchens, canteens, and operational areas to assess exposure to physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic, and psychosocial hazards.
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Industrial Hygienist to interpret monitoring results and assess health risks.
  • Recommend and implement effective exposure control measures, including engineering controls, improved work practices, and PPE usage.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to design and monitor workplace health and hygiene strategies.
  • Prepare accurate reports on inspections, audits, and investigations, ensuring proper documentation and record-keeping.
  • Lead the implementation of health surveillance programmes and investigate workplace health concerns.
  • Review PPE specifications to ensure quality and promote proper usage across the site.
  • Perform additional duties related to occupational hygiene and workplace health as assigned.

Education, Experience & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Occupational Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field with at least 2 years’ relevant experience in mining or heavy industry;
    OR
    High School Certificate with a Diploma in a related field and a minimum of 5 years’ relevant industrial experience.
  • Progress toward or completion of an accredited Industrial/Occupational Hygiene certification is an advantage.
  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) in Occupational Health and Safety is desirable.
  • Must possess a Minerals Commission HSE Officer Certificate of Competency.
  • Valid Ghanaian Class B Driver’s License.
  • Strong knowledge of Ghanaian health and safety legislation, particularly mining regulations.
  • Solid understanding of safety management systems, risk management, and loss prevention.
  • Practical experience using industrial hygiene and exposure monitoring equipment.
