Role Overview

Black Star Group is seeking a strategic and highly analytical Head of Research to lead its Research function. The successful candidate will define the firm’s research agenda, deliver high-quality investment insights, and support business growth through actionable intelligence. This role requires strong leadership, deep market knowledge, and the ability to translate complex data into clear investment strategies.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Research function, setting the strategic direction for macroeconomic, sector, and company-level analysis
• Define research priorities and coverage across equities, fixed income, and alternative investments, ensuring alignment with client needs and business objectives
• Oversee the production of high-quality research reports covering macroeconomic trends, capital markets, industry developments, and investment opportunities in Ghana and key international markets
• Deliver timely, data-driven, and actionable insights to support Brokerage, Asset Management, and Investment Banking teams
• Collaborate with Portfolio Managers and Traders to translate research insights into implementable investment strategies, including asset allocation and security selection
• Oversee the preparation and dissemination of market intelligence, including daily and weekly updates, economic commentaries, earnings notes, and thematic reports
• Ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance of all research outputs with internal policies and regulatory requirements, including SEC Ghana guidelines
• Drive the development of proprietary models, valuation frameworks, and analytical tools to enhance research quality and differentiation
• Engage with institutional and high-net-worth clients, presenting market outlooks, investment ideas, and portfolio strategies
• Represent the firm at industry events, investor conferences, media engagements, and client forums
• Supervise, mentor, and develop research analysts, ensuring high performance and continuous professional growth
• Collaborate with Compliance and Risk teams to uphold ethical standards, information barriers, and market conduct regulations

Qualifications and Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in research, strategy, or economics, preferably within financial services
• ACI Certificate
• GISI Certificate
• Strong academic background in Economics, Finance, or Investment Analysis
• Excellent quantitative, analytical, and financial modeling skills
• Proven ability to generate independent insights and actionable investment recommendations
• Strong report writing and presentation skills
• A postgraduate qualification (e.g., CFA, MBA, MSc in Finance or Economics) is an added advantage
