Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Underwriting Officer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will assess risks, support client insurance needs, and collaborate with underwriting partners to deliver optimal coverage solutions. You will play a key role in ensuring accuracy, compliance, and client satisfaction across all underwriting and claims processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine clients’ insurance activities and underwriting proposals by gathering and analyzing relevant background information.
- Collaborate with underwriters and specialist colleagues to assess risks effectively and recommend suitable coverage.
- Liaise with underwriting companies to obtain and evaluate premium quotations for new business opportunities.
- Advise clients on optimal insurance coverage based on actuarial data, statistical analysis, and professional judgment.
- Coordinate with underwriting partners to prepare, draft, and issue insurance policies and related documentation.
- Review client proposals and ensure accurate and thorough underwriting of identified risks.
- Support clients throughout the claims process by ensuring proper procedures are followed and documentation is complete.
- Prepare and submit claims forms, and actively follow up to resolve client claims within agreed timelines.
- Maintain accurate records of completed business transactions and track commissions receivable from insurers and clients.
- Work closely with the Sales and Marketing team to facilitate timely renewal of existing insurance policies.
Key Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Insurance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certification such as CII (Chartered Insurance Institute) is an added advantage.
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in the insurance industry, with at least two (2) years in General Insurance.
- Strong understanding of insurance principles and terminology across multiple lines of business.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and professionalism.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
