STATION ACCOUNTANT

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Station Accountant to manage and strengthen financial operations at the station level. The successful candidate will ensure strong financial control, accurate reporting, compliance with internal and external regulations, and effective management of accounting systems and processes.

This role requires a disciplined professional with strong technical accounting expertise, leadership capability, and experience working in a structured international environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) modules including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), iExpense, and Fixed Assets (FA).
  • Enforce internal financial controls and ensure strict compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and control budgets to ensure effective financial planning and expenditure management.
  • Prepare accurate and timely periodic financial reports for the station.
  • Conduct Fixed Asset verification and impairment assessments.
  • Maintain complete and accurate accounting records in both electronic and physical formats.
  • Review and validate tax computations to ensure accuracy and timely payment of government taxes.
  • Supervise the work of Accounts Assistants to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee expense claim processing, verification, and approval workflows.
  • Manage procurement claim processing and ensure proper documentation and authorization.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and resolving audit queries.
  • Prepare additional financial reports as assigned by the Head of Station.
  • Train and guide newly recruited staff on financial policies and procedures.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and ensure accuracy of all bank records.
  • Supervise banking relationships and maintain proper banking mandates.
  • Prepare bank transfer instructions and official correspondence with financial institutions.
  • Coordinate monthly payroll processing and closure for all staff categories including regular staff, STS, casual workers, and consultants.
  • Perform general ledger reconciliations, including payroll and other accounts.
  • Oversee statutory payments and ensure compliance with PAYE, Social Security Fund (SSF), and other regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (CA, ACCA, or equivalent) is required.
  • A Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
  • Excellent command of English and strong communication skills.

Experience & Competencies

  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in accounting or finance, preferably within an international NGO or similar organization.
  • Strong knowledge of financial systems, controls, and reporting frameworks.
  • Proven ability to supervise teams and manage financial operations effectively.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and a strong team player.
