Position Summary
The Operations Manager will take full ownership of fleet operations, fuel management, maintenance systems, compliance, and service delivery performance across a large-scale haulage fleet. The role requires strong leadership, commercial acumen, and hands-on operational control to ensure efficiency, profitability, and service excellence.
You will work closely with executive leadership to optimize operations, strengthen controls, and support business expansion across Ghana’s logistics corridors and port terminals.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Command & Operations Control
- Direct daily dispatch operations and coordinate route planning for a fleet of 130+ heavy commercial vehicles.
- Oversee vehicle movement across key corridors and Tema port terminals, including MPS, GJT, and T2.
- Ensure optimal turnaround time, on-time delivery performance, and operational efficiency.
- Strengthen dispatch planning systems to improve fleet utilization and service reliability.
Fuel Management & Cost Control
- Take full ownership of fuel consumption monitoring and cost optimization strategies.
- Analyze telematics and GPS data to track fuel usage patterns and identify inefficiencies.
- Enforce strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to eliminate fuel pilferage and wastage.
- Implement corrective actions to improve fuel efficiency and reduce operational costs.
Asset Management & Maintenance Oversight
- Lead preventive and corrective maintenance programs to maximize fleet uptime.
- Ensure all vehicles meet regulatory, safety, and operational standards at all times.
- Monitor workshop performance and enforce maintenance compliance schedules.
- Strengthen asset lifecycle management to protect long-term fleet value.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop the Transport Manager and field operations teams.
- Build a high-performance, accountable, and disciplined operational culture.
- Set clear performance expectations and monitor delivery against KPIs.
- Strengthen coordination between operations, maintenance, and dispatch teams.
Commercial Growth & Business Development
- Collaborate with executive leadership to identify new business opportunities and service lines.
- Support negotiation of vendor, supplier, and client contracts to strengthen profitability.
- Contribute to strategic planning for regional expansion and operational scaling.
- Drive operational readiness for new contracts and high-value client onboarding.
Compliance & Port Operations
- Ensure full compliance with Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority regulations and other relevant authorities, including NPA, BOST, and DVLA.
- Oversee smooth operations within Tema port environments and clearance processes.
- Maintain strict adherence to safety, regulatory, and contractual obligations.
- Ensure 100% SLA compliance for key clients and strategic partners.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in commercial transport, logistics, or haulage operations.
- At least 5 years of experience managing a fleet of 50+ heavy commercial vehicles.
- Proven experience in P&L responsibility, cost control, and operational efficiency improvement.
- Strong working knowledge of Tema port operations and regulatory frameworks.
