Position Summary
The Caretaker (Officers Residence) will oversee the day-to-day upkeep of the residence, coordinate maintenance activities, monitor facility conditions, and ensure a clean and comfortable environment. The role requires a responsible individual who can maintain high standards of cleanliness, security, and asset management while supporting the operational needs of the residence.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Facility Maintenance and Inspection
- Conduct routine inspections of the residence and its facilities to ensure they remain in good condition.
- Identify maintenance requirements and promptly report faults, damages, and repair needs.
- Monitor the condition of electrical, plumbing, and utility systems and report any defects.
- Assist in coordinating maintenance and repair activities to ensure timely resolution of issues.
- Maintain daily maintenance records and activity logs.
Housekeeping and Environmental Management
- Ensure the regular cleaning and upkeep of rooms, corridors, kitchens, washrooms, and the surrounding compound.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic environment throughout the residence.
- Monitor cleaning supplies and report replenishment needs when necessary.
- Ensure all facilities remain presentable and ready for use at all times.
Asset and Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate records of furniture, appliances, equipment, and other residence assets.
- Conduct periodic checks on assets and report damaged, defective, or missing items.
- Support inventory control measures to safeguard organizational property.
Guest and Occupancy Support
- Assist in preparing the residence for visiting officers and official guests.
- Ensure all rooms, facilities, and amenities are functional and ready before occupancy.
- Support the smooth accommodation of guests by maintaining a welcoming and comfortable environment.
- Respond promptly to facility-related concerns raised by occupants.
Reporting and Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of daily activities, inspections, maintenance requests, and completed repairs.
- Prepare reports on facility conditions and operational issues as required.
- Escalate urgent maintenance or safety concerns to the appropriate authority promptly.
Qualifications and Experience
Educational Requirements
- Minimum of a Senior High School Certificate (WASSCE/SSCE) or equivalent qualification.
Professional Qualifications
- Certificate, vocational training, or formal education in Facilities Management, Estate Maintenance, Building Maintenance, Property Management, or a related field will be an advantage.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of relevant experience in caretaking, property maintenance, facilities management, housekeeping supervision, or a related role.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain residential or institutional facilities to high standards.
- Experience managing assets and reporting maintenance issues will be an added advantage.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Knowledge of basic building maintenance and facility management practices.
- Good housekeeping and sanitation management skills.
- Ability to identify maintenance issues and communicate them effectively.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities efficiently.

- Ability to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for occupants and visitors.
