Position Summary

IOM Ghana is seeking a reliable, safety-conscious, and service-oriented Driver to support the transportation and logistical needs of the Organization. Reporting to the Field Coordinator and working closely with the Resource Management Officer (RMO), the successful candidate will provide safe and efficient transportation services, ensure the proper maintenance of assigned vehicles, and support administrative and operational activities in Accra and Tamale.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Safely operate assigned IOM vehicles for official missions, field activities, and transportation of staff, visitors, and authorized personnel.
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness, including checks on tires, brakes, engine oil, coolant levels, lights, batteries, and other critical components.
  • Maintain assigned vehicles in a clean, safe, and presentable condition at all times.
  • Coordinate routine servicing, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs to ensure optimal vehicle performance.
  • Maintain records of vehicle spare parts and conduct regular inventory checks.
  • Plan and follow the safest and most efficient travel routes.
  • Ensure vehicles are used exclusively for authorized organizational purposes.
  • Complete daily vehicle logbooks and prepare monthly reports on mileage, fuel consumption, maintenance, and vehicle utilization.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding organizational activities, personnel, and sensitive information.
  • Support the implementation of security measures to protect passengers, vehicles, and organizational assets.
  • Meet official visitors and personnel at airports and assist with immigration, customs, and transportation arrangements when required.
  • Collect, transport, and deliver official correspondence, documents, supplies, and packages to government institutions, partner organizations, project locations, and other designated destinations.
  • Support office operations by performing basic administrative tasks, including photocopying, filing, record keeping, and telephone communications when necessary.
  • Adhere strictly to IOM safety, security, and transportation policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of organizational operations.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

Applicants must possess:

  • A High School Certificate or equivalent qualification with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional driving experience; or
  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • A valid national driver’s licence with a clean driving record.

Experience

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Proven experience driving various types of vehicles safely and responsibly.
  • Strong knowledge of local traffic laws, road safety regulations, and defensive driving techniques.
  • Experience conducting basic vehicle maintenance and inspections.
  • Familiarity with the use of communication tools and office technology, including mobile phones, email, and basic computer applications.
  • Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, UN agencies, or government institutions is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently, manage schedules effectively, and respond calmly in challenging situations.

Languages

  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required.
  • Knowledge of a language commonly spoken in Northern Ghana is a strong advantage.
  • Working knowledge of French is an added advantage.
