We are seeking a dedicated, caring, and highly organized Boarding House Master to lead and manage our boys’ boarding house while fostering a positive and enriching boarding experience for all students.
Position Summary
The Boarding House Master will oversee the day-to-day management of the boarding house, ensuring the safety, wellbeing, discipline, and personal development of boarding students. The successful candidate will create a supportive residential environment that promotes academic achievement, positive behaviour, personal responsibility, and community living.
The role requires a strong educator and mentor who can build meaningful relationships with students while maintaining high standards of care, safeguarding, and pastoral support.
Key Responsibilities
Boarding House Leadership & Management
- Lead the effective operation and administration of the boarding house.
- Establish a welcoming, supportive, and well-structured residential environment for students.
- Ensure boarding house routines, procedures, and expectations are implemented consistently.
- Supervise boarding students and maintain high standards of conduct, discipline, and personal responsibility.
- Manage boarding house records, reports, attendance, and student welfare documentation.
Student Welfare & Pastoral Care
- Provide guidance, mentoring, and pastoral support to boarding students.
- Promote students’ emotional wellbeing, personal growth, and social development.
- Monitor student welfare and respond appropriately to personal, academic, or behavioural concerns.
- Foster a culture of mutual respect, inclusion, and community engagement within the boarding house.
- Act as a trusted adult who supports students in navigating boarding life successfully.
Safeguarding & Student Safety
- Ensure the safety, security, and wellbeing of all boarding students at all times.
- Implement and uphold school safeguarding and child protection policies.
- Respond appropriately to student welfare concerns and escalate issues when required.
- Conduct regular checks to ensure boarding facilities remain safe and conducive to student wellbeing.
- Support emergency preparedness and crisis response procedures.
Academic Support & Student Development
- Encourage positive study habits and academic achievement among boarding students.
- Monitor student academic progress and collaborate with teachers to support student success.
- Create opportunities for personal development, leadership, and life-skills learning.
- Support students in maintaining a balanced approach to academics, extracurricular activities, and personal wellbeing.
Parent & Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians regarding student welfare and development.
- Build positive relationships with families and respond to concerns professionally and promptly.
- Work closely with school leadership, teachers, counselors, nurses, and boarding staff to support student success.
- Participate in parent meetings, school events, and boarding community activities.
Residential Life & Community Building
- Organize activities that promote community spirit, student engagement, and positive relationships.
- Encourage student leadership and participation in boarding house initiatives.
- Foster an environment where students feel respected, supported, and encouraged to achieve their full potential.
- Promote cultural awareness, diversity, and responsible citizenship within the boarding community.
Qualifications & Educational Requirements
Candidates must possess:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Sciences, Psychology, Child Development, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
- Demonstrated teaching experience within a Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) environment.
- Additional qualifications in pastoral care, safeguarding, counseling, or boarding education will be an advantage.
Professional Experience
- Experience teaching within a CAIE curriculum environment is required.
- Previous experience working in a boarding school setting will be highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience supporting student wellbeing, discipline, and pastoral care.
- Experience supervising young people in residential, educational, or youth development settings will be an advantage.
