Safety Officer – Surface (Full-Time)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Safety Officer – Surface to support the implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety programs across our surface operations. The successful candidate will play a critical role in promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing operational risks, and supporting safe work practices across processing plants, infrastructure projects, and maintenance operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and monitor health and safety management systems across surface operations.
• Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
• Promote compliance with company safety standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
• Support incident investigations and root cause analyses, ensuring corrective actions are effectively implemented.
• Monitor safety performance and prepare reports for management review.
• Provide safety guidance and support for processing plants, surface infrastructure, engineering projects, and maintenance workshops.
• Facilitate safety awareness campaigns, training sessions, and toolbox meetings.
• Support construction safety activities for greenfield and brownfield projects.
• Participate in project planning and execution to ensure safety considerations are integrated throughout project lifecycles.
• Collaborate with operational teams to continuously improve workplace safety performance.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 45001 standards and other relevant occupational health and safety frameworks.

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
• ISO 45001 Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor Certification.
• Certification in Process Safety Engineering or Process Safety Management.
• Certification in Incident Investigation Methodologies such as ICAM, IIP, TapRooT®, or equivalent.
• Health and Safety Certificate of Competency issued by the Minerals Commission of Ghana will be an added advantage.
• A valid Ghanaian driver’s license will be a strong advantage.

Experience and Skills

• Minimum of 4 to 8 years’ experience within the mining industry.
• Demonstrated experience applying health and safety principles within:
  • Mine Processing Plants
  • Surface Infrastructure Operations
  • Surface Engineering Projects
  • Maintenance Workshops
• Experience managing safety requirements for construction projects, including greenfield and brownfield developments.
• Knowledge of project management principles and their application within industrial environments.
• Ability to drive manual transmission vehicles.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk management skills.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and high-risk operational environments.
