Position Summary

AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited is seeking a skilled and experienced Trainer, Solo / Longhole Drill Equipment to deliver high-quality technical training and competency development for underground drilling operators.

The successful candidate will train, assess, and mentor operators in longhole drilling techniques, equipment handling, safety compliance, and productivity optimization to ensure alignment with production standards and mine plans.

This role requires strong underground mining experience, technical training capability, and a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Training Delivery & Competency Development

• Deliver structured training on longhole drilling techniques, including fan drilling, ring drilling, and production drilling.
• Train operators on precision drilling to meet production blast requirements.
• Assess operator competency in hole deviation control, drilling accuracy, and adherence to design parameters.
• Train operators on drill setup, positioning, and alignment within production stopes.
• Mentor operators to progress from novice to advanced competency levels.

Safety & Operational Excellence

• Enforce strict adherence to underground safety procedures in high-risk production environments.
• Train operators on pre-start inspections, safe operating practices, and equipment maintenance awareness.
• Reinforce blasting coordination requirements and communication protocols.
• Ensure compliance with mine production plans, drilling schedules, and operational standards.

Equipment Performance & Technical Support

• Support operators in troubleshooting hydraulic, feed, and drilling system issues.
• Coach operators on maximizing productivity while minimizing ore loss and dilution.
• Monitor operator performance against KPIs, including meters drilled, accuracy, and equipment downtime.
• Collaborate with technical teams to ensure correct interpretation and execution of drill designs.

Reporting, Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate training records, competency assessments, and certification documentation.
• Track operator progress and provide structured feedback for continuous improvement.
• Ensure training activities align with regulatory requirements and internal standards.

Stakeholder Collaboration

• Work closely with geology, planning, and production teams to ensure accurate implementation of drill designs.
• Support coordination between operational teams to achieve production and safety targets.
• Reinforce alignment with AngloGold Ashanti values in all training activities.

Qualifications & Experience

Education & Certification

• Diploma or Certificate in Drilling Technology.
• NVTI Certificate, HND in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical qualification.
• Valid Mincom Certificate in Solo Operation.
• Recognized Train-the-Trainer and Assessor certification is required.

Experience

• Minimum of 5–8 years’ relevant experience as a Solo / Longhole Drill Equipment Trainer in underground mining.
• Previous experience as a Shift Trainer or Instructor in mining operations.
• Strong background in underground drilling operations and operator development.

Legal Requirements

• Valid driver’s license.

Technical Competencies

• Strong understanding of drilling equipment safety and operational standards.
• Ability to train, assess, and provide constructive performance feedback.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in underground mining conditions and shift rotations.

Functional Competencies

• Ability to work underground and travel between work areas as required.
• Proficiency in basic computer applications for training documentation and reporting.
