Position Summary
AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited seeks a highly experienced and strategic Manager, Planning to lead medium- to long-term mine planning functions at the Obuasi operation.
The successful candidate will drive integrated life-of-mine (LOM) planning, ensure accurate forecasting, support capital decision-making, and align technical planning outputs with corporate strategy and operational execution.
This role requires strong leadership, advanced technical expertise in mine planning systems, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams in a complex underground mining environment.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Values Leadership
- Demonstrate and uphold AngloGold Ashanti values in all decisions, actions, and leadership practices.
- Promote and enforce strict compliance with site safety standards and actively drive a zero-harm culture across all planning activities.
Strategic Mine Planning & Life of Mine Development
- Lead the development, integration, and governance of medium-, long-, and life-of-mine planning frameworks.
- Develop and maintain medium-term and annual production forecasts, ensuring alignment with operational and strategic objectives.
- Lead life-of-mine scenario analysis to optimize value, manage risk, and support strategic decision-making.
- Ensure seamless integration between long-term, medium-term, and short-term mine plans.
Forecasting, Reporting & Technical Governance
- Coordinate quarterly and annual forecasting cycles and ensure accuracy of 12-month production plans.
- Deliver clear, accurate, and timely planning reports and presentations to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Ensure mineral reserve and resource reporting complies with regulatory and corporate governance standards.
- Conduct cut-off grade analysis to optimize economic extraction and resource utilization.
Capital Planning & Project Evaluation
- Prepare and review Appropriation for Expenditure (AFE) submissions for capital projects.
- Lead the planning and scheduling of capital infrastructure and operational development required to support mine execution.
- Evaluate technical and economic viability of new mining projects to support investment decisions.
Technical Integration & Systems Alignment
- Ensure integration of geological, geotechnical, ventilation, survey, and operational inputs into all planning horizons.
- Incorporate void models, Ground Control Management Plan outputs, and Ventilation Management Plan requirements into planning systems.
- Maintain planning standards, procedures, and design compliance across all workstreams.
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
- Liaise with internal and external subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure alignment with industry best practice.
- Collaborate with corporate stakeholders to ensure alignment of mine plans with broader business strategy.
- Present technical findings and planning outcomes to leadership teams, technical committees, and external reviewers.
Leadership & Capability Development
- Provide technical mentorship and leadership to planning engineers.
- Build team capability and support succession planning within the planning function.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance planning accuracy, efficiency, and integration.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Advanced training in mine planning and scheduling software (e.g., Deswik CAD & IS) is essential.
- Membership of a recognized professional body is an advantage.
- Ability to act as a competent person for mineral reserve estimation is required.
- Mine Captain Certificate of Competency (Minerals Commission of Ghana) is desirable but not mandatory.
Experience
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in underground mine planning.
- Proven leadership experience in Life-of-Mine (LOM) planning and integrated scheduling environments.
- Strong background in reserve estimation, capital planning, and business forecasting.
- Demonstrated experience using Deswik CAD and Scheduler for design and planning workflows.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams in a mining environment.
- Exposure to contractor–owner alliance operating models is an advantage.
