Project/Grant Accountant (Ghanaian Nationals Only)

Location: Tamale, Ghana
Employment Type: Full-Time

We are seeking a diligent, ethical, and detail-oriented Project/Grant Accountant to support financial management and reporting for project activities in Ghana. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with donor regulations, maintain accurate financial records, and support effective grant implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor project financial transactions in compliance with organizational and donor regulations.
  • Prepare accurate financial reports, budgets, and expenditure analyses for project activities.
  • Review supporting documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with financial policies.
  • Track project expenditures and ensure alignment with approved budgets and funding guidelines.
  • Support audit processes by providing required financial records and explanations.
  • Reconcile accounts and resolve financial discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Assist in monitoring cash flow and ensuring proper utilization of project funds.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using approved accounting systems.
  • Collaborate with program and operations teams to ensure effective financial planning and reporting.
  • Ensure adherence to internal control systems, donor requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support decision-making.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field with accounting coursework.
  • Professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, or equivalent certification is an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a similar accounting or finance role.
  • Experience working with international or local NGOs is preferred.
  • Familiarity with donor-funded project financial management is an advantage.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to detect and report financial inconsistencies.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and accountability.
  • Strong ethical conduct aligned with recognized professional standards.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and results-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Experience with web conferencing tools.
  • Familiarity with SunSystems or similar financial accounting software is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of donor financial regulations is preferred.

Language & Travel Requirements

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken) is required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% as needed.
