Position Purpose
The Laboratory Technician will monitor, analyze, and evaluate water quality parameters to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards. The role will provide technical support in diagnosing water quality issues, recommending treatment solutions, and supporting water management systems, including swimming pool operations and maintenance projects.
The successful candidate will contribute to ensuring safe, clean, and balanced water systems through accurate laboratory testing, data analysis, and expert technical guidance.
Key Responsibilities
Water Quality Testing and Analysis
- Conduct routine and advanced testing of water samples to assess chemical, physical, and biological parameters.
- Monitor water quality indicators and evaluate compliance with established safety and environmental standards.
- Analyze laboratory results and recommend appropriate water treatment solutions.
- Maintain accurate records of all test results, observations, and laboratory activities.
Water Treatment and Problem Diagnosis
- Investigate and diagnose water quality issues including algae growth, cloudiness, staining, scaling, corrosion, and chemical imbalance.
- Recommend and implement corrective treatment measures to restore water quality standards.
- Monitor the effectiveness of treatment interventions and adjust solutions where necessary.
- Ensure optimal chemical balance in water systems to support safety and performance.
Technical Support and Advisory Services
- Provide technical advice and support to clients, management, maintenance teams, and the sales department.
- Support troubleshooting of water treatment systems and related equipment.
- Offer expert guidance on water chemistry and treatment requirements for swimming pools and related systems.
- Assist in technical decision-making for water treatment solutions and service delivery.
Research and Development
- Conduct research on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in water treatment and laboratory science.
- Recommend improvements to existing water treatment processes and systems.
- Stay updated on advancements in water quality management and environmental standards.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory and operational procedures.
Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare detailed technical reports on water quality analysis and treatment outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and organized laboratory records in accordance with established protocols.
- Document findings, observations, and recommendations clearly and professionally.
- Support reporting requirements for internal stakeholders and clients.
Project Support and Field Services
- Support swimming pool construction and maintenance projects with technical expertise in water chemistry and treatment design.
- Assist in commissioning and testing of water systems and treatment installations.
- Provide on-site support for troubleshooting and system optimization when required.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure effective system performance.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations in all laboratory and field activities.
- Follow established safety procedures when handling chemicals and laboratory equipment.
- Promote safe working practices and maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
- Identify and report any safety risks or non-compliance issues promptly.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Water Resources Management, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in water quality testing, water treatment, laboratory operations, swimming pool maintenance, or a related technical field.
- Proven experience diagnosing and resolving water quality and chemical imbalance issues.
- Experience working with water treatment systems and laboratory equipment is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of water chemistry and treatment processes.
- Knowledge of chemical dosing, filtration systems, and water balance principles.
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures and water testing methodologies.
- Understanding of swimming pool systems and water circulation technologies (preferred).
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
- Strong analytical and research capabilities.
- Ability to identify, diagnose, and resolve complex water quality issues.
- Ability to interpret laboratory data and provide actionable recommendations.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in testing and reporting.
Communication and Reporting Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong report-writing abilities with clear technical documentation.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, technical teams, and non-technical stakeholders.
Technical and Digital Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to maintain digital and manual laboratory records.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the swimming pool industry.
- Professional certification in water treatment, laboratory analysis, environmental management, or related fields.
- Knowledge of advanced pool filtration systems and chemical dosing practices.
