Position Purpose

The Investment Analyst, Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services (MAS) will support IFC’s investment activities by conducting financial analysis, market research, transaction support, and business development activities. The role contributes to the identification, evaluation, structuring, and monitoring of investment opportunities across the manufacturing, agribusiness, and services sectors.

Working closely with investment officers and clients, the Investment Analyst will provide analytical support, develop financial models, assess business opportunities, and contribute to investment decisions that generate both financial returns and development impact.

Key Responsibilities

Investment Analysis and Transaction Support

  • Conduct detailed financial analysis of investment opportunities and advisory transactions.
  • Evaluate the financial viability, risks, and growth potential of companies and projects.
  • Develop and maintain sophisticated financial models to support investment decision-making.
  • Perform discounted cash flow (DCF) analysis, comparable company analysis, and valuation assessments.
  • Analyze debt pricing benchmarks, equity market comparables, and industry performance indicators.
  • Support transaction execution activities, including due diligence, financial reviews, and investment documentation.

Market and Industry Research

  • Conduct market, sector, and industry analyses to identify investment opportunities and emerging trends.
  • Assess market conditions, competitive dynamics, business opportunities, and investment risks.
  • Apply market mapping methodologies to identify gaps, growth potential, and strategic opportunities.
  • Monitor economic, financial, and regulatory developments relevant to target sectors and markets.

Business Development and Client Engagement

  • Support business development initiatives through company mapping, stakeholder analysis, and pipeline development activities.
  • Assist in identifying potential clients, investment opportunities, and strategic partnerships.
  • Engage with clients to gather financial, operational, market, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) information.
  • Build productive working relationships with clients and key stakeholders throughout the investment process.

Financial Modeling and Data Analysis

  • Develop, update, and maintain complex financial models for investment evaluation and portfolio monitoring.
  • Analyze financial statements, business performance indicators, and operational metrics.
  • Identify data requirements necessary for financial, operational, development impact, and ESG assessments.
  • Validate and organize information to ensure analytical accuracy and completeness.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Synthesize information from multiple sources to prepare investment memoranda, presentations, reports, and business documents.
  • Present financial and market data effectively through graphics, charts, and tables.
  • Prepare concise, accurate, and well-structured analytical reports to support investment recommendations.
  • Contribute to the preparation of materials for internal review and decision-making processes.

Development Impact Assessment

  • Assess the potential development impact of investment opportunities across sectors and markets.
  • Support evaluation of how investments contribute to economic growth, job creation, market development, and social outcomes.
  • Extract lessons learned from previous IFC investments and advisory engagements to strengthen transaction structuring and execution.
  • Integrate development impact considerations into investment analyses and recommendations.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications in finance or investment analysis will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2–4 years of relevant professional experience within a financial institution, investment bank, private equity firm, development finance institution, consulting firm, or related environment.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting investment projects, corporate finance transactions, or financial advisory engagements.
  • Proven experience developing and maintaining complex financial models.
  • Experience conducting financial analysis, valuation, and investment assessments.
  • Exposure to emerging markets and development finance will be an advantage.

  • Strong understanding of corporate finance, project finance, valuation methodologies, and investment analysis.
  • Advanced financial modeling and financial statement analysis skills.
  • Strong knowledge of financial markets, capital markets, and investment principles.
  • Ability to assess investment risks and opportunities using quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Knowledge of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations in investment decision-making.
