We are seeking an experienced and strategic Manager, Planning to lead integrated mine planning activities that support safe, efficient, and sustainable mining operations at our Obuasi Mine.
Role Purpose
The Manager, Planning is responsible for leading the development, integration, governance, and continuous improvement of medium- and long-term mine planning processes. The successful candidate will oversee Life of Mine (LOM) planning, production forecasting, capital infrastructure planning, mineral reserve reporting, and strategic scheduling to ensure operational readiness and long-term value creation. This role will provide technical leadership while ensuring alignment with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Mine Planning
- Lead the development, integration, and governance of medium- and long-term mine plans in alignment with the Life of Mine (LOM) strategy and business objectives.
- Coordinate quarterly and annual planning cycles, including 12-month production forecasts and medium-term planning activities.
- Develop and maintain planning standards, procedures, and governance frameworks to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance.
- Review and validate planning assumptions regularly to maintain planning accuracy and operational relevance.
- Evaluate alternative Life of Mine scenarios to optimise production outcomes, business value, and risk management.
- Ensure seamless integration between long-term strategy, medium-term plans, and short-term operational schedules.
Technical Planning & Capital Projects
- Lead the design and scheduling of capital infrastructure required to support Life of Mine delivery.
- Oversee operating development planning to enable safe and efficient mining throughout the mine life.
- Prepare and review Appropriation for Expenditure (AFE) submissions for capital projects in alignment with strategic priorities.
- Assess the technical and economic viability of new mining opportunities and capital investments.
- Conduct cut-off grade analyses to optimise resource utilisation and maximise economic value.
Resource & Reserve Management
- Lead the integration of geological models and resource data into Life of Mine planning.
- Oversee mineral reserve and resource reporting in accordance with corporate governance and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure resource-to-reserve conversion processes remain robust and support sustainable mine planning outcomes.
- Incorporate updated void models into all planning horizons to maintain planning accuracy.
Planning Integration & Operational Readiness
- Integrate Ground Control Management Plan requirements into all planning horizons.
- Integrate Ventilation Management Plan deliverables into strategic, medium-term, and operational plans.
- Ensure planning activities reflect infrastructure dependencies, sequencing logic, operational milestones, and execution readiness.
- Drive planning improvements that enhance operational efficiency, compliance, and business performance.
Technical Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong relationships with corporate stakeholders to ensure planning activities support business strategy.
- Collaborate with internal and external Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to maintain industry-leading technical standards.
- Prepare and present planning reports, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and technical committees.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentorship to Planning Engineers to strengthen capability, succession planning, and high-performance teams.
- Promote AngloGold Ashanti’s values while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications, Experience & Competencies
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Advanced training in mine planning, scheduling, and production software, including Deswik CAD and Deswik IS/Scheduler, is essential.
- Membership of a recognised professional engineering body is an advantage.
- Ability to act as a Qualified or Competent Person for Mineral Reserve sign-off is highly desirable.
- Mine Captain Certificate of Competency issued by the Minerals Commission of Ghana is desirable but not mandatory.
Experience
- Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in underground mine planning with progressive technical and leadership responsibilities.
- Extensive experience in Life of Mine (LOM) planning, mineral reserve estimation, strategic scheduling, and integrated planning.
- Demonstrated experience supporting capital evaluation, business planning, production forecasting, and AFE development.
- Strong working knowledge of Deswik design and scheduling applications, including planning standards and design governance.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary planning teams across geology, geotechnical engineering, ventilation, survey, and mining operations.
- Experience presenting technical recommendations to senior leadership, technical review committees, and external stakeholders.
- Sound understanding of regulatory requirements, planning governance frameworks, and reporting standards.
- Experience working within contractor-owner alliance models is an advantage.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
- Advanced proficiency in Deswik mine planning software.
- Strong analytical, mine scheduling, financial modelling, and report writing skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other planning and reporting tools.
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and multidisciplinary coordination skills.
- Strong strategic thinking with the ability to balance technical, operational, and commercial priorities.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to work underground when required and travel across operational work areas.
