Role Purpose
The Project Communications Lead will develop and implement strategic communication initiatives that support the successful delivery of AngloGold Ashanti’s projects. The successful candidate will lead project communications, strengthen stakeholder relationships, safeguard the Company’s reputation, and ensure clear, timely, and transparent communication with internal and external audiences.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead comprehensive project communication strategies and implementation plans across AngloGold Ashanti Business Unit (ABU) projects.
- Deliver accurate, consistent, timely, and credible communications that support project objectives and organizational priorities.
- Translate complex technical and project information into clear, accessible language for diverse stakeholder groups.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders through open, honest, and empathetic communication.
- Manage high-risk community, stakeholder, and reputational issues through proactive engagement and effective communication planning.
- Develop and implement crisis communication strategies to address misinformation, speculation, emerging risks, and media enquiries.
- Lead media relations activities and ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels.
- Provide functional oversight and guidance to communications consultants, contractors, and external service providers.
- Ensure all communication activities comply with applicable national regulations, Company policies, and international standards, including IFC Performance Standards (PS1 and PS5) and Good International Industry Practice (GIIP).
- Prepare high-quality communication materials, stakeholder reports, presentations, and project updates for internal and external audiences.
- Monitor communication effectiveness and recommend continuous improvements to enhance stakeholder engagement and organizational reputation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure communication strategies support project delivery and business objectives.
Qualifications, Experience & Competencies
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related discipline.
- A Master’s degree in Strategic Communications, Public Affairs, ESG, Social Performance, or a related field will be an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of seven (7) years’ relevant experience in project communications, stakeholder engagement, corporate affairs, or a related discipline.
- Experience within the mining, infrastructure, extractive industries, or large-scale development projects.
- Proven experience managing high-risk community, stakeholder, and reputational issues.
- Experience engaging with traditional authorities, regulators, government institutions, NGOs, community representatives, and the media.
- Working knowledge of IFC Performance Standards and international lender requirements.

- Strong expertise in stakeholder engagement, strategic communications, and crisis communication.
- Demonstrated ability to build trust and protect organizational reputation.
- Excellent media relations and public affairs capabilities.
- Experience facilitating community engagement in complex and sensitive operating environments.
- Outstanding written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
- Ability to simplify complex technical information for diverse audiences.
- Strong planning, project coordination, analytical, and reporting skills.
- Ability to remain calm, credible, and solutions-oriented in high-pressure situations.
- High ethical standards with demonstrated integrity, neutrality, accountability, and sound judgment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with empathy, resilience, collaboration, and strategic thinking.
