Technician, Process Mechanical (Full-Time)

Key Responsibilities

As the Technician, Process Mechanical, you will:

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on fixed plant mechanical equipment to maximize equipment reliability and availability.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical faults on pumps, conveyors, crushers, screens, gearboxes, piping systems, valves, and other process plant equipment.
  • Execute maintenance activities in accordance with approved work management processes, maintenance procedures, and engineering standards.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, technical manuals, and equipment specifications to complete maintenance tasks accurately.
  • Carry out mechanical fitting, precision alignment, bearing installation, equipment inspections, and overhaul activities to a high standard.
  • Apply Lockout/Tagout/Testout (LOTOTO), risk assessment processes, and safe work procedures before and during maintenance activities.
  • Record maintenance activities accurately within the company’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS/ERP).
  • Collaborate with supervisors, planners, contractors, and operations personnel to complete maintenance work safely and efficiently.
  • Identify equipment improvement opportunities and recommend corrective actions to enhance plant performance.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, quality workmanship, and compliance with statutory, company, and industry safety requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • A Mechanical Engineering Technician Certificate or an equivalent qualification.
  • MINCOM Certification as an Inspection Engineer will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in mechanical maintenance of fixed plant equipment, preferably within the mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial sector.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical maintenance principles, equipment reliability, and industry best practices.
  • Sound knowledge of work management processes.
  • Basic knowledge of maintenance planning and scheduling.
  • Basic knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.

Technical Skills

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, contractors, and operations teams.
  • The ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, P&IDs, equipment manuals, maintenance procedures, and technical schematics.
  • Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills to identify root causes of equipment failures and prepare accurate technical reports.
  • Proficiency in using mechanical tools, precision measuring instruments, and maintenance equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair fixed plant mechanical equipment.
  • Strong understanding and application of safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout/Testout (LOTOTO), risk assessments, and safe work practices.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship while complying with company standards, statutory regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Strong mechanical fitting skills, including precision alignment, bearing installation, and equipment inspection techniques.
