Position Overview
The Account Officer will support the Finance team by managing daily accounting activities, monitoring financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced business environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Financial Accounting and Reporting
- Maintain accurate financial records and accounting documents.
- Prepare and review financial reports to support business decision-making.
- Record daily financial transactions and ensure proper documentation.
- Assist with month-end and year-end financial reporting processes.
- Reconcile accounts and investigate discrepancies where necessary.
2. Inventory and Cost Accounting
- Monitor inventory transactions and maintain accurate stock records.
- Support inventory valuation and cost analysis processes.
- Track product costs and assist with cost management initiatives.
- Work with relevant teams to ensure accurate inventory reporting.
3. Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Process supplier invoices and verify payment documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of outstanding payments and receivables.
- Monitor customer accounts and support timely collections.
- Assist with supplier and customer account reconciliations.
4. Budgeting and Financial Planning
- Support the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against approved budgets.
- Provide financial information to support business planning.
- Assist in identifying opportunities for improved cost efficiency.
5. Taxation and Regulatory Compliance
- Support the preparation of tax-related documentation.
- Ensure financial records comply with applicable regulations and company policies.
- Maintain organised records for audits and regulatory reviews.
- Assist with statutory reporting requirements.
6. Payroll and Employee Management Support
- Support payroll preparation and verification processes.
- Maintain accurate employee financial records.
- Assist with payroll documentation and related administrative tasks.
- Ensure confidentiality of employee information.
7. Internal Controls and Risk Management
- Support the implementation and monitoring of internal financial controls.
- Maintain proper documentation of financial processes.
- Identify and report financial irregularities or risks.
- Promote compliance with company procedures.
8. FMCG Operational Support
- Provide financial support to daily business operations.
- Work closely with sales, inventory, and operations teams.
- Analyse operational financial information to support business performance.
- Assist with financial reporting related to product sales and distribution activities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of Higher National Diploma (HND) or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 1–2 years of relevant working experience in accounting or finance.
- Experience in retail, FMCG, electricals, or trading environments will be an advantage.
