Position Summary
The Zoo Keeper is responsible for caring for animals, maintaining enclosures, preparing food, monitoring animal health, and ensuring a safe and clean environment for both animals and visitors. The ideal candidate will demonstrate compassion for animals, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to animal welfare and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily care, feeding, and monitoring of animals within the resort’s animal facilities.
- Prepare and distribute appropriate food according to animal feeding schedules and requirements.
- Clean, maintain, and sanitize animal enclosures, shelters, and surrounding areas.
- Monitor animal behavior, health, and well-being and report any concerns promptly.
- Identify signs of illness, injury, or unusual behavior and communicate observations to management.
- Ensure animals have access to clean water, proper nutrition, and suitable living conditions.
- Assist with animal handling, movement, and routine care activities when required.
- Maintain accurate records of feeding schedules, animal activities, health observations, and care routines.
- Support veterinary visits and follow recommended animal care procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety standards within animal areas.
- Assist with maintaining visitor safety around animal exhibits and facilities.
- Educate guests about animals, conservation, and responsible interaction where required.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and supplies used for animal care.
- Follow health, safety, hygiene, and environmental procedures at all times.
- Perform other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
- Certificate, Diploma, HND, or equivalent qualification in Animal Science, Wildlife Management, Agriculture, Veterinary Assistance, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Previous experience working with animals, livestock, wildlife, farms, zoos, or animal care facilities is preferred.
- Practical knowledge of animal feeding, handling, and basic care procedures will be an advantage.
- Experience working in a hospitality, conservation, or nature-based environment is desirable.
