We are seeking a compassionate and professional School Counselor to join our team and provide guidance, counseling, and support services that enhance the overall development of our pupils.

Position Summary

The successful candidate will support pupils’ academic, social, emotional, and personal development by providing professional counseling services, identifying student needs, and working collaboratively with teachers, parents, and school leadership.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, empathy, confidentiality, and the ability to create a safe and supportive environment where pupils feel heard and encouraged.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling support to pupils on academic, social, emotional, and personal matters.
  • Assess pupils’ needs and provide appropriate guidance and interventions.
  • Identify and support pupils experiencing learning difficulties, behavioral challenges, or emotional concerns.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and school leadership to promote student welfare and development.
  • Maintain confidential records of counseling sessions, student progress, and interventions.
  • Prepare accurate reports and updates for management while protecting sensitive information.
  • Develop and implement student support programs, including career guidance, life skills education, and anti-bullying initiatives.
  • Promote positive behavior, emotional well-being, and a safe school environment.
  • Provide guidance to pupils on decision-making, personal development, and future planning.
  • Support the school’s child protection and safeguarding initiatives.
  • Participate in school activities and contribute to initiatives that improve pupil welfare.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Educational Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling, Psychology, Education, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Professional registration or certification with relevant bodies such as the Ghana Education Service (GES) or Ghana Counselling and Psychology-related professional bodies will be an advantage.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a school or educational environment.
  • Practical experience providing counseling support to children or young people is preferred.
  • Knowledge of child development, student welfare practices, and counseling approaches.
  • Experience developing student support programs will be an added advantage.
