Role Purpose

The Microfinance Officer drives the delivery of microfinance services by mobilizing clients, managing loan portfolios, and supporting customers to grow sustainable livelihoods. The role actively promotes responsible lending, portfolio quality, and strong client relationships while contributing to the bank’s financial inclusion objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Client Mobilization and Relationship Management

  • Identify, mobilize, and onboard new microfinance clients in line with bank policies.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to support retention and portfolio growth.

  • Educate clients on available financial products and services.

Credit and Loan Management

  • Conduct client appraisals, loan assessments, and credit analysis.

  • Process loan applications and ensure compliance with approved credit procedures.

  • Monitor loan utilization and ensure timely repayments to maintain portfolio quality.

Portfolio Monitoring and Recovery

  • Track loan performance and follow up on repayments proactively.

  • Implement recovery strategies for overdue accounts in line with bank guidelines.

  • Prepare accurate portfolio reports and submit timely updates to management.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure all microfinance activities comply with internal policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain accurate client records, documentation, and reports.

  • Support audits and reviews by providing complete and accurate information.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • HND or Diploma in a relevant discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant work experience, preferably in microfinance, banking, or a related financial services role.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Basic credit analysis and financial literacy skills.

  • High level of integrity, accountability, and customer focus.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team in a community-based environment.
