Role Overview

The Clearing Officer manages and facilitates the timely and compliant clearance of imported and exported goods. The role ensures adherence to all regulatory requirements while optimizing efficiency in customs processes and documentation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and execute customs clearance processes for imports and exports.
  • Prepare, review, and submit all required documentation in line with regulatory standards.
  • Liaise with customs officials, port authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth clearance operations.
  • Monitor shipment status and proactively resolve clearance delays or discrepancies.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable customs laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of all clearing transactions and documentation.
  • Support cost optimization by ensuring correct tariff classifications and duty payments.
  • Champion safety standards across all clearing and logistics activities.

Skills and Attributes Required

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of Ghana Customs procedures and systems, including GCNet/ICUMS.
  • Apply a solid understanding of import/export documentation and clearance processes.
  • Show familiarity with Incoterms, duties, tariffs, and shipping procedures (advantageous).
  • Utilize Microsoft Office tools effectively, especially Excel.
  • Exhibit strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Maintain high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Communicate clearly and build effective working relationships.
  • Perform effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Uphold a high level of integrity and demonstrate a willingness to learn.
  • Act as a proactive safety champion in all operations.

Qualifications

  • Hold a degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Possess a minimum of 3–4 years of post–national service experience in a similar role.
  • Have a valid Ghanaian driver’s license (advantageous).
