Green for Change Ghana (GCG) is an environmental non-governmental organization committed to working with communities to promote sustainable natural resource management, environmental conservation, and climate resilience, particularly in northern Ghana. We design and implement practical, community-driven interventions that benefit both people and the environment. Our work focuses on strengthening community capacity to adapt to climate change and other environmental threats while contributing to the sustainable management of critical ecological habitats.

GCG’s programs span tree planting and forest landscape restoration, agroforestry, Green Value Chain Development, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), climate adaptation, renewable energy solutions, and community empowerment initiatives, all aimed at improving livelihoods for vulnerable populations and safeguarding the environment.

Position Summary

Green for Change Ghana is seeking a passionate and creative Volunteer Communication Officer to support our communication, visibility, and storytelling efforts. The volunteer will play a key role in documenting field activities, creating engaging multimedia content, managing digital platforms, and amplifying the organization’s impact across online channels.

This role involves regular travel to project communities to capture photos, videos, and stories from the field and is ideal for a motivated individual looking to build practical experience while contributing to meaningful community-based development and environmental action.

Key Responsibilities

1. Take high-quality photographs and videos of project activities, events, and community engagements
2. Edit photos and videos for reports, social media, and promotional materials
3. Manage and update the organization’s website (content uploads, basic design and layout updates)
4. Create and post content on Facebook, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), and YouTube
5. Support the development of communication materials such as flyers, posters, short videos, and success stories
6. Maintain an organized digital archive of photos, videos, and communication materials
7. Travel regularly to project communities to document field activities

Educational Background

A minimum of a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Graphic Design, Information Technology, Development Studies, or any other related field.

Required Skills and Competencies

1. Strong skills in photography and videography
2. Basic to intermediate skills in photo and video editing
3. Ability to design and update websites (WordPress or similar platforms is an advantage)
4. Good working knowledge of Facebook, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), and YouTube
5. Ability to write clear and engaging captions, stories, and short articles
6. Willingness to travel frequently to rural field locations
7. Creativity, attention to detail, and a strong sense of storytelling
8. Good communication and teamwork skills
9. Passion for environmental conservation, climate action, and community development

Added Advantage

1. Experience working with NGOs or community-based projects
2. Skills in graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe tools)
3. Basic knowledge of monitoring and documentation
